Description

This delightful dessert is perfect for special occasions or gatherings!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound sponge cake or ladyfingers, cut into cubes
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 can cherry pie filling (about 21 oz or 595g)
  • 1 cup prepared vanilla pudding
  • 1/4 cup cherry liqueur (optional)
  • Fresh cherries, for garnish
  • Cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Whipped Cream: In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Beat the mixture with an electric mixer on medium-high speed until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
  2. Layer the Dessert: In a trifle dish or large glass bowl, start by placing a layer of sponge cake or ladyfingers at the bottom. If using, drizzle a bit of cherry liqueur over the cake to moisten. Spread a layer of vanilla pudding over the cake. Add a layer of cherry pie filling on top of the pudding. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of whipped cream on top.
  3. Garnish: Use a piping bag to decoratively add remaining whipped cream on top. Garnish with fresh cherries and a light dusting of cocoa powder.
  4. Chill: Refrigerate the trifle for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld together.

Notes

  • For added flavor, you can layer the cake with a mixture of orange zest and juice.
  • Substitute cherry liqueur with brandy or rum if preferred.
  • Try adding chocolate shavings between layers for extra decadence.
  • For a crunch, consider adding toasted almond slices or crushed nuts between layers.
