Description

Delicious and cheesy potato sticks that are perfect for a snack or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. Prepare the potato mixture – Start with mashed potatoes that have cooled slightly. Place them in a large mixing bowl. Add the shredded cheddar cheese, egg, melted butter, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and chopped parsley. Stir everything together until well combined. The mixture should smell warm and savory, with the cheese already beginning to blend into the potatoes.
  2. Add the flour – Gradually mix in the flour until a soft dough forms. The dough should be smooth and easy to handle, not sticky. If it feels too sticky, add a small amount of flour until it becomes manageable.
  3. Shape the sticks – Lightly flour your work surface and roll the dough out to about ½ inch thickness. Using a knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into evenly sized sticks. This is often the step where kids love to help. The dough is forgiving, and imperfect shapes still bake beautifully.
  4. Arrange and bake – Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the sticks with a little space between each one. Bake for about 20–25 minutes, or until the Potato Cheese Sticks become golden and slightly crisp on the edges.
  5. Serve warm – Remove them from the oven and allow them to cool for a few minutes. The outside will be lightly crisp while the inside stays soft and cheesy. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • The potato cheese sticks can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days before baking.
  • These sticks can be frozen for up to a month before baking. Just add an extra 5 minutes to the baking time when cooking from frozen.
