Baked Pasta with Meat and Cheese

Description

This delicious baked pasta dish combines rotini or penne with ground beef, cheese, and spices for a comforting meal.


Ingredients

  • 16 ounces rotini or penne pasta (uncooked)
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ cup onion
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • ½ tablespoon olive oil
  • 24 ounces spaghetti or marinara sauce
  • 1 tablespoon plus ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning (divided)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (divided)
  • 1 cup pepperoni
  • for optional garnish fresh shredded parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a 9×13 pan with nonstick spray.
  2. Cook pasta according to directions on the package for al dente, drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet add the olive oil and cook the ground beef, onions, and garlic, all seasoned with salt and pepper, until no pink remains in the meat. Drain any extra grease.
  4. Add the spaghetti sauce and 1 tablespoon of Italian seasoning to the ground beef and stir to heat. Remove from heat.
  5. Add the cooked pasta and 1 cup of mozzarella cheese to the meat and stir to mix.
  6. Pour into the prepared 9×13 pan and spread evenly in the pan.
  7. Top with remaining 1 cup of mozzarella cheese.
  8. Lay the slices of pepperoni on top of the cheese.
  9. Sprinkle with ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning.
  10. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, uncovered.

Notes

  • This dish can be topped with additional vegetables such as bell peppers or mushrooms for added flavor and nutrition.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated.
