Description

Delicious glazed candy apples perfect for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or Gala)
  • 6 wooden sticks
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red food coloring
  • Green food coloring (for optional decoration)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples:
    • Wash and dry the apples thoroughly to remove any wax coating.
    • Insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple, making sure it’s secure.
  2. Prepare the Candy Coating:
    • In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup, and water.
    • Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
    • Insert a candy thermometer and increase the heat to medium-high.
  3. Cook the Mixture:
    • Allow the syrup to boil without stirring until the temperature reaches 300°F (hard crack stage). This should take about 15-20 minutes.
    • Remove from heat and carefully stir in the vanilla extract and red food coloring until the mixture is smooth.
  4. Dip the Apples:
    • Quickly dip each apple into the candy mixture, turning to coat evenly.
    • Allow excess to drip off before placing them on a non-stick baking sheet or parchment paper to cool.
  5. Optional Green Top:
    • If desired, reserve a small portion of the candy mixture.
    • Add green food coloring and, using a spoon, carefully apply a small amount around the stick at the top of each apple.

Notes

  • Ensure apples are completely dry before dipping to help the candy adhere better.
  • For a fun twist, consider rolling the freshly dipped apples in chopped nuts, sprinkles, or coconut before they cool.
  • Work quickly when dipping apples, as the candy mixture hardens fast once removed from heat.
  • Store candy apples in a cool, dry place and enjoy within two days for best texture.
