Description

Delicious marbled butter bars topped with creamy frosting and sprinkles

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Salted Butter (Softened)
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 2 large Large Eggs (Room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon Almond Extract
  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 bottle Red/Green Food Coloring (For marbling)
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable Shortening or Unsalted Butter
  • 4 cups Confectioner’s Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 3 tablespoons Milk (Add gradually)
  • 1 cup Sprinkles (Jimmies or nonpareils)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar in a mixing bowl until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Gradually add the large eggs, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the almond extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and baking soda, then gradually add this to the wet mixture.
  5. Divide the dough into two bowls, adding red food coloring to one and green to the other.
  6. Spoon alternating dollops of each color into the prepared baking pan, gently pressing to flatten.
  7. Bake for about 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool completely before frosting.
  8. Beat together the vegetable shortening (or butter) and confectioner’s sugar, mixing in vanilla and milk until creamy.
  9. Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled bars and sprinkle with jimmies or nonpareils. Chill for 30-40 minutes.
