Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup milk, warmed
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (filling)
- 1 cup brown sugar (filling)
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon (filling)
- 1 cup pecans, chopped (filling)
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (icing)
- 3 tablespoons cream cheese, softened (icing)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened (icing)
- 1 to 2 tablespoons milk (icing)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (icing)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water with a pinch of sugar. Let it stand until frothy, about 5-10 minutes. In a large bowl, combine the milk, melted butter, sugar, salt, and egg. Stir in the yeast mixture. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 6-8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Prepare the Filling: In a bowl, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until well combined.
- Assemble the Rolls: Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a 12×18 inch rectangle. Spread the cinnamon filling evenly over the dough and sprinkle with chopped pecans. Roll tightly from the long side, and slice into 12 rolls. Place the rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Cover and let rise again until doubled, about 30-45 minutes.
- Bake the Rolls: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Prepare the Icing: In a medium bowl, beat together powdered sugar, cream cheese, butter, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Adjust the consistency with milk if needed.
- Finish the Rolls: Remove rolls from the oven and let them cool slightly. Drizzle with icing before serving.
Notes
- For an extra gooey texture, add a bit more butter and sugar before rolling.
- To prevent the rolls from browning too quickly, cover with foil during baking if necessary.
- For a richer flavor, try using brown butter in the icing.
