Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chocolate Ganache:
    • Heat 1 cup of heavy cream until it simmers.
    • Pour over 1 cup of chopped dark chocolate. Let sit for 2 minutes, then stir until smooth. Allow to cool.
  2. Make the Vanilla Custard:
    • In a saucepan, combine 2 cups of milk, 1/4 cup of sugar, and 2 tablespoons of cornstarch.
    • Stir constantly over medium heat until thickened.
    • Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and let cool.
  3. Assemble the Trifle:
    • In a large trifle dish, layer half of the crumbled chocolate cake.
    • Spread a layer of vanilla custard over the cake.
    • Add a layer of sliced strawberries.
    • Drizzle a generous layer of chocolate ganache.
    • Repeat the layers until the ingredients are used, reserving some strawberries and ganache for the top.
  4. Top the Trifle:
    • Pipe or spoon the remaining whipped cream over the top.
    • Arrange the reserved strawberries on top.
    • Drizzle with leftover chocolate ganache.
    • Sprinkle dark chocolate shavings for garnish.
