This delicious apple butter cake is a great dessert for any occasion.

- 2 to 3 medium apples
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (for topping)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (for batter)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk or buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 10-inch cast iron skillet or cake pan well.
- In the pan, melt 1/4 cup butter and brown sugar over medium heat until bubbling. Remove from heat.
- Arrange thinly sliced apples over the caramel in a circular pattern.
- In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream 1/2 cup butter and granulated sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla, beat well.
- Add dry ingredients to the wet, alternating with milk, mixing just until smooth.
- Gently pour batter over apples and smooth the top.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cool for 10–15 minutes. Run a knife around the edge, place a plate over the pan, and flip.
- Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use a mix of different apple varieties.
- Serve with caramel sauce for extra sweetness!
